ACC Internet Cribbage
The 2004 season in review
Well, we have successfully completed our first, albeit abbreviated,
season of ACC Internet Cribbage. Final results indicate there were over
5000 entries to these tournaments (including non-ACC members), with a
total of 82 tournaments held on 66 nights. This equates to an average of
over 75 entrants per night — a phenomenal
number!!
As with any new venture, ACC Internet Cribbage experienced a couple
of bumps in the road. The Internet Steering Committee and the Tournament
Directors appreciate everyone's patience as we worked through some of
these. We will continue to monitor all situations as they occur.
Taking into account all that we have learned through our first
season, we have developed the following changes as the 2004–2005
season starts:
1. Tournament Scheduling. We will continue to offer single
elimination tournaments at MSN Gaming Zone on the following schedule:
- Mondays, 4:30 PM Pacific Time Zone (7:30 PM Eastern), Tournament
Room 5
- Thursdays, 7:00 PM Pacific Time Zone (10:00 PM Eastern),
Tournament Room 6
- Saturdays, 2:30 PM Pacific Time Zone (5:30 PM Eastern),
Tournament Room 6
To vary the tournament formats and alleviate some of the difficulties
that occurred in some of our events, we are expanding our schedule to
include semimonthly (or more frequent) ACC Members Only events.
These will include:
- Double Elimination (64-player maximum)
- Cribbage Cup
These ACC Members Only events will be held by our current
tournament directors at MSN Gaming Zone. However, they will be held in
either the Group or League Room, both of which are accessible via
http://zone.msn.com/en/cribbage/rooms_others.htm. (To get to these
rooms from the Main Cribbage Page at
http://zone.msn.com/en/cribbage, click on the Play with Others
button number 1).
Only ACC members in good standing — that
have registered Screen Nicknames with the ACC through
the online form
— will be able to participate in these
ACC Members Only tournaments.
2. Internet Rating Points. The major change to the
IRP system is
that the maximum number of tourneys for which IRPs will be awarded is
increased to 100. This number may change after we complete some analysis
of participation levels during the first season, and as the overall
tournament density changes. This will be announced within a couple of
months, and your feedback is welcome in the meantime. At any rate you
are welcome to continue participating in ACC Internet tournaments even
if you have already reached your annual quota, so peg on, and don't
worry too much about where the quota is eventually set.
As before, the top ten IRP finishers will form the 2004–5
All-Internet, and the top 10% of players earning IRPs will
receive an invitation for the ACC Tournament of Champions in Reno.
On behalf of the Internet Steering Committee members, thank you for
making our initial venture into Internet cribbage a successful one! With
at least 180 tournaments planned for the upcoming season, we encourage
you to "spread the word" about ACC Internet Cribbage amongst the
membership, and to continue to use this as a platform for obtaining new
members to the finest playing card organization in the world!!
