ACC Internet Cribbage

John Elmer wins ACC Pegging Pals single elimination

January 29, 2004:
Mid-January featured two more of our four-stake single elimination tournaments. The Saturday, January 17 event was won by a nonmember, only the second time that has happened since ACC Internet Cribbage began in October. ACC peggers did grab the remaining top spots, though, with David Campbell (dc2121), the 2001–2002 ACC Rookie of the Year, finishing second, and Howard Dorfman (lonrangrma2133) of Everett, MA tying for third with Springfield, OR's Allen Nypen (A0939). Finishing fifth were Marie Harrington (ma_lobs) of Ipswich, MA, Dick Ness (drness) of Port Orchard, WA and Jerry Hardy (ovaeeezy) of Phillips, ME. You may recall that Hardy previously earned himself a place in cribbage history by winning the ACC's very first Internet tournament. Donald E. Ellis (+_LoneStar__) directed this 73 player affair.

Thursday, January 22 saw a couple of new faces in the Finals. John Elmer (Teton2) came away with First Place. Despite his screen name, which gives homage to his Wyoming roots, Elmer currently calls Newberry Springs in the California desert his home. Second Place went to Kelly Breedlove (VA449KLB) of Barboursville, WV. It was the first time either player had reached the top ranks of an ACC online tournament. Terry McGinnis (ontario97914) of Ontario, OR finished third, while Billy Barnes (Billy_CA5177) of Red Bluff, CA was the only ACC'er to finish in the Fifth Place bracket. Exactly 64 players signed up for this event, which made director Donald E. Ellis's job a bit easier, as there were no byes to distribute.

These four-stake single elimination tournaments are our most popular events, perhaps because they are so fast-paced (usually concluding in less than three hours) while still providing a challenging level of competition. They make a great introduction to ACC Internet Cribbage, if you haven't yet tried it!

No IRPs were awarded for these demonstration events, but the high finishers have been entered into the official ACC record. We expect that rated play will begin in a few weeks. Watch for an announcement in the March issue of Cribbage World, or at this Web site. (back...)
